What is love?

What is love?

How can we define it?

Many have tried.

How can we truly know what love is?

How can we be sure?

Is love a feeling or a fancy?

Does love alter when its alteration find?

Is it an ever fixed mark?

How can we know?

I tell you this,

We can know what love is. 

It has been defined.

It has been shown through the greatest act of love there ever could be.

Death for someone else.

Giving one's life for another.

Giving one's life for a multitude of people.

Loving one that did not care. 

Loving first.

He did this for me.

He loved me first.

Christ gave himself for me.

Perfect and blameless lamb that he is.

I rejected him,

Yet, he pursued me.

This I know is love.

So I ask again,

What is love?

Christ. 

Christ is love.

"By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." -1 John 3:16

"We love Him because He first loved us." -1 John 4:19
